Those are valid service-economy figures. The job count spans the broader service-export population and cannot be used as a count of Chilean developers or people working in software outsourcing.

The largest number is not automatically the most useful one. Use the narrowest category that answers the decision.

InvestChile's 2026 global-services publication cites IDC projections of:

  • $2.608 billion in Chilean IT-services spending.

The same publication says more than 90 leading companies have established a Chilean base from which to export technology and business services. The year changes across the columns: enrollment and first-year data are for 2025, while the graduate count is for 2024. The figures describe an IT education pipeline rather than the number of experienced developers who are employed, English-speaking, available, or qualified for a specific role.

Training and labor-demand signals

SENCE says more than 11,000 people have trained in digital profiles through Talento Digital since 2019. That measures program participation, not an additional developer population.

SENCE also says its SABE platform analyzed more than 920,000 job postings from 2025 and identifies software development among areas showing demand growth. The 920,000 postings cover the labor market broadly: they are not software vacancies, and they do not establish a shortage percentage.

The two measures indicate policy and employer attention to digital skills. Candidate availability still needs role-, location-, and date-specific evidence.

Software compensation distribution

GSC analyzed public Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2025 microdata for Chile respondents whose role field included full-stack, back-end, front-end, or desktop/enterprise application development. The analysis retained annual USD compensation above $5,000 and below $500,000.

The survey is self-selected. Reported annual compensation is not necessarily base salary and is not a provider rate, loaded employer cost, or project price. Small role, work-arrangement, and early-experience subgroups are not stable enough for publication as market benchmarks.

Innovation and startup-program context

Chile ranked 51st of 139 economies and first in Latin America and the Caribbean in WIPO's 2025 Global Innovation Index. The index is a national composite. It does not establish the quality of an individual provider, candidate availability, or English proficiency.

Start-Up Chile says its program has supported more than 2,500 startups since 2010. This is a cumulative program-portfolio count, not the number of currently active Chilean startups, and it includes companies and founders supported through the program.

What GSC's documented Chile provider set shows

GSC's May 2026 snapshot provides descriptive evidence about the firms buyers encounter in its documented Chile set. The percentages below describe that comparison set rather than every software company operating in the country.

Employee-size bands

Among profiles with employee-size information, about 73% fall in the 2–49 employee bands and about 93% in the 2–249 bands. A separately labeled freelancer sits outside those combined bands.

The band labels come from documented provider profiles and are not verified payroll headcounts. The distribution must not be generalized to every software company in Chile or used as proof of quality.

Primary locations

About 92% of the documented profiles list a primary location in ten identified Greater Santiago communes: Providencia, Santiago, Las Condes, Vitacura, Ñuñoa, La Florida, Huechuraba, San Miguel, Lo Barnechea, and La Reina.

This is primary-location evidence only. It does not describe every office, employee location, delivery center, or the national developer distribution.

Visible services

Custom software development appears throughout the profiles with service tags. Approximately 63% display IT strategy consulting, 43% IT managed services, 39% web development, and 34% mobile app development. Profiles can carry several service tags, so these percentages should not sum to 100%.

The categories describe public positioning in the documented profiles. They are not market share, revenue, delivery volume, technical depth, or current capacity.

Founding years

Founding-year coverage is about 89% of the documented set. Among profiles with that field, approximately 49% predate 2010, 32% date from 2015 or later, and 7% from 2020 or later; the two central observations are 2010 and 2011. Operating age does not establish financial stability, project relevance, or delivery quality. Technology, industry, review, client-focus, minimum-project-size, availability, and office-network fields are too sparse for country-level publication claims.

What the evidence cannot establish
