GlobalSoftwareCompanies pulled the current official Mexican sources for this market and added our own analysis of the 2025 Stack Overflow survey. Workforce, establishments, graduates, trade, pay, connectivity, and employer-cost figures are dated and cited below.

Mexico's official statistics run deep, and the core ones are dependable. INEGI, Banco de México, and ANUIES publish state-level cuts, size bands, and category detail that survive scrutiny; their limits are definitions, not collection quality. One exception sits in the salary data: Data México warns its occupation-page pay estimates have low statistical precision, so this page does not use them and relies on our reproducible Stack Overflow cut instead.

The sections keep those measures apart on purpose. Jump to the one you need.

Citation rule

When you quote one of these figures, keep its source, year, and definition with it. A number without those stops meaning what it measured.

Talent and workforce statistics

Mexico's technical talent shows up at different stages, and each is counted separately: who is working in these jobs today, and who is still studying toward one.

Let's look at each in turn.

Data México reported a workforce of approximately 390,000 in the occupation Analysts and Software Developers and Multimedia during the first quarter of 2026.

The occupation is a useful measure of the overall market, but it is broader than a count of software engineers. It does indicate which of these people:

  • are open to changing jobs;

  • have the stack or domain you need;

  • meet a seniority bar;

  • work in English;

  • live within commuting range of your team;

  • can start on your date; or

  • want the pay and schedule you are offering.

So it's best to treat it as a broad occupation bucket, and not a pool of ready-to-hire developers.

Data México also warns that salary estimates on the occupation page have low statistical precision. Therefore this analysis does not use its displayed MXN 11,000 monthly average as a software-engineer salary benchmark.

Mexico's ICT education pipeline

ANUIES recorded 48,678 graduates and 36,003 degree recipients in the broad Tecnologías de la información y la comunicación field during the 2024–2025 academic cycle.

That field is wider than software engineering and computer science. "Graduates" and "degree recipients" are also two different counts. Neither tells you how many new developers entered the job market, or how many left for jobs abroad.

Provider supply and establishment statistics

We have reasonable rich data which shows where Mexico's software companies are located and how big they are indicating the main hotspots for the experienced talent pool.

Data México and DENUE reported 3,058 economic units in Computer Systems Design and Related Services in May 2026.

An economic unit is a single business location in that industrial classification. It is not the same as a unique company, a headquarters, an employer, or a vetted outsourcing provider. One firm can run several units.

The shares come straight from those size counts and add up to about 100% after rounding. They describe business locations, not the share of outsourced projects each size group delivers.

Our own comparison set tells the same story. Across 437 Mexican providers in GSC's documented directory, most are small shops:

About three-quarters have fewer than 50 employees. These are GSC's documented profiles, not a census of every Mexican software company, and the bands are self-reported size ranges rather than verified payroll.

That spread is why you verify the entity and the team, not the sector. Ask the finalist for evidence of engineering depth, export experience, quality, security, and current capacity.

Market maturity and founding years

The same GSC set is established rather than new. Across 406 Mexican providers with a founding year on file, the median is 2011:

More than two-thirds have been around a decade or more. Age is not quality — a young specialist can out-deliver an old generalist — but it does mean a buyer is choosing from a market with real operating history rather than a fresh boom.

What Mexican providers charge

Across 188 GSC-documented Mexican providers with a complete published hourly range, the median rate-band midpoint is $37 an hour. That is a published asking-price midpoint, not a negotiated rate, an employee salary, or a loaded cost — and it comes from GSC's directory set, not a market survey. Use it to sanity-check a quote, then negotiate from the actual scope and team.

Developer compensation and workforce signals

These survey figures all come from our own analysis of public Stack Overflow data, but each one is based on a different group of respondents.

Software engineer compensation in Mexico

GSC analyzed public Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2025 microdata for Mexico respondents who:

  • reported annual compensation between $5,000 and $500,000; and

  • selected full-stack, back-end, front-end, or desktop and enterprise applications as a developer role.

The defined slice contained 100 respondents.

The survey is self-selected, so it is not a census. Reported pay can include bonuses and benefits. And this is annual USD compensation — not a Mexican contractual salary, an employer cost, a contractor invoice, or a vendor rate.

Skip the mean; a few high earners pull it up. The median and the quartiles describe the sample better.

The 0–2-year group is small, so read it carefully. These are reported years of experience, not job titles. And note the 16-plus median dips below the 11–15 band — the sample is too small to claim pay rises forever.

Stack Overflow allowed multiple selections, so percentages within each category must not be summed.

These are shares of the 100 people in our sample, not a national ranking. They tell you what to test in an interview — not that most Mexican engineers master a given technology.

Remote-work and AI-use survey signals

Of 94 people in the selected salary slice who answered the work-location question, 47 reported working remotely. This does not prove that half of all Mexican developers work remotely.

"Some use" adds together the daily, weekly, monthly, and less-frequent answers. It says nothing about skill, code quality, or whether the use is policy-compliant.

In a hire, test how the person validates output, handles personal data and secrets, and respects repository and training rules.

Market, trade, and innovation statistics

Trade and innovation measures offer national context, but they answer different questions.

International services: what the trade figure includes

Banco de México reported 2025 credits of USD 3.255 billion and debits of USD 6.257 billion for telecommunications, computer, and information services.

Credits are services Mexico sold abroad; debits are services it bought. This broad category includes telecoms and information services as well as computer services, so it is not a software-export figure.

Trade category boundary

It cannot be relabeled “Mexico software outsourcing exports.” It also does not describe the revenue of Mexican software providers, the value of the domestic software market, or US-only trade.

Innovation context

WIPO ranked Mexico 58th among 139 economies in the 2025 Global Innovation Index and third in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The GII is a broad national index. It is useful background on innovation, but it says nothing about:

  • software engineering quality;

  • how mature a vendor's delivery is;

  • English proficiency;

  • project success;

  • security posture; or

  • the best nearshore location.

Read it as context, then look at the actual provider and team.

Infrastructure and working-hour statistics

Internet access and working hours answer different questions. This section covers both.

Internet access and delivery resilience are different measures

INEGI's ENDUTIH 2025 reported:

  • 86.1% internet use among people aged six or older; and

  • internet access in 78.3% of households.

Those figures describe broad adoption and access. A provider resilience review should cover bandwidth, latency, power continuity, office redundancy, endpoint security, and recovery capability.

For an outsourced software team, request:

  • primary and backup connectivity;

  • power and equipment continuity;

  • office and home-working arrangements;

  • recovery objectives;

  • tested alternate access;

  • incident escalation; and

  • evidence from a continuity exercise.

Household internet access cannot serve as a delivery SLA.

Mexico working-hour statistics need named cities

Mexico's time-zone law defines four zones, plus seasonal rules for some northern-border cities. A single "Mexico time" is inaccurate.

The May 1, 2026 reform states that the transition cannot reduce salary or benefits. The operating cost can still change when an employer needs additional capacity, changed shifts, or overtime to preserve coverage.

A narrow Mexico City model uses MXN 50,000 monthly salary, minimum 15-day aguinaldo, 12 vacation days, a 25% vacation premium, stated 2026 IMSS assumptions, a 0.54355% work-risk input, INFONAVIT, and the current 4% payroll tax.

Under those assumptions, the result is 32.4% above twelve monthly salaries. It excludes PTU, voluntary benefits, telework, administration, EOR fees, FX, termination, and other costs.

The example is a calculation method. Never shorten it to “Mexican employer costs are 32.4%.”

How to cite Mexico software outsourcing statistics correctly

Attach five fields whenever a figure moves into another article, chart, presentation, or proposal:

  1. source;

  2. reference date or period;

  3. population;

  4. unit and statistical measure; and

  5. limitation.

For example:

That sentence preserves what the number can—and cannot—support.

Methodology

  • the employer-cost result is a narrow Mexico City scenario whose assumptions and exclusions travel with the calculation.

The official figure used here is USD 3.255 billion in 2025 credits for telecommunications, computer, and information services. The category is broader than software outsourcing, so this page does not publish it as a software-export total.

GSC's defined Stack Overflow 2025 slice had median annual compensation of $31,583, rounded to $31,600, among 100 Mexico respondents in selected software roles. It is self-selected survey compensation, not a universal salary.

No universal percentage is supported by these statistics. A valid comparison needs equivalent roles, levels, benefits, employer costs, delivery responsibility, currency dates, tools, management, and transition.

Mexico has four statutory zones and specified northern-border seasonal rules. Working overlap depends on the Mexican city, US city, date, and team schedules.

Takeaway

Mexico has a large technical workforce, thousands of computer-systems locations, a steady flow of ICT graduates, and real working-hour overlap with the US. Those facts justify looking closer — they don't vouch for any single provider.

Quote the narrowest figure that fits, keep its definition with it, and test the team and the commercial terms yourself.
